Description
Wild Tasmania, the large island resting in the south east corner of Australia, is very popular with walkers, and among the trails, the Overland Track is the magnet, attracting hikers from all over the world. Happily, there are some good alternatives, equal in beauty. And exploring the famous Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park is not confined to the Overland Track.
The island is popular because of its wild mountains, best te be visited in summer (December - February), large forests, especially in the north west, and its many peculiar animal species (even by Australian standards) like the Tasmanian Devil.
Many trails exist, and you could even complete a hike from north to south (Tasmanian Trail) or along the west coast (Cape to Cape Track).
