Kamnik Savinja Alpen
Description
This extension of the Southern Limestone Alps is known by various names. The German name is Steiner Alpen. But the English-Slovenian name Kamnik Savinja Alps is better known. You might also find names like Sanntaler and Sulzbacher Alpen, or Kamniške-Savinjske Alpe.
These mountains are an eastward continuation of the Karawanken. But they rise much higher, offering views over the entire alps. They border on Austria, but the main part is in Slovenia. Highest summit is Grintovec, 2.558 m. Doesn't sound too high, but trips in this mountain area are not ordinary hikes, due to the vertical nature of the peaks. Many trails are artificially secured, via ferrata.
