Terceira, Azores
Description
The third largest island of the Azores is Terceira. It belongs to the central group of islands. Terceira has a relatively large population, and some real towns, like historic Angra do Heroísmo. The island is made up of four old volcano’s, even if this is hardly visible anymore. If you are interested in volcanism, you will undoubtedly find many interesting features on this island as well as on all the other Azores.
Terceira offers a varied range of hiking options, from the forested hills in the centre, to the lava fields along the north coast. The rural centre of the island is fun for hiking too. The 1000 m high volcano Lagoa Negra is covered in forests. Like the other Azores, there are many birds, flowers and exotic plants, enchanting, even if they are not endemic to these islands.
